As a thiodiazole derivative, DMTD is an acronym for 2,5-dimercapto-1,3,4-thiodiazole. It is an ashless and multifunctional additive in lubricants, for it not only can work as a corrosion inhibitor and metal deactivator, but also function as an EP/AW agent. So it has found use in coolant, water-based fluids, metalworking fluids and other lubricants. In addition, it is an important chemical intermediate in many industries, such as lubricant, pharmaceutical, rubber and electrochemistry industry for preparation of many other products.

2,5-Dimercapto-1,3,4-thiadiazole (DMTD) has also been used for many years in flame-retardant products. What’s more, it is utilized in a variety of other applications including synthesizing polymers and heavy metal and basic salts in cross linking halogenated polymers in electrode compositions as an intermediate or starting material for pharmaceuticals and dyes as a chelating agent in the analysis of metals in purifying and treating waste and as a biocide.
